Thanksgiving...a day for giving thanks...especially for smoke alarms! No, no...it's not as bad as you may be thinking. It's actually an annual tradition! Ok, what the heck am I talking about? Well, it all begins with Alton Brown! I love Alton Brown and just about everything that he does. He has this fabulous Roasted Turkey recipe that we have tried the last 3 years - all with the same results - delicious moist turkey, and an annual test of our smoke alarm!
It all starts with a great brine - you soak your turkey overnight. Then, you dry it off, stuff it with aromatics, lube it up with oil, and stick it in the oven at a toasty 500 degrees for 30 minutes to get a fantastic browning on the old bird! This is where the fun begins! See, our oven works great up to about 450 degrees, but when the temps reach 500, the oven can't seem to control all the smoke coming off the turkey. We've tried everything - fans, open windows, oven vent on high...everything. So now, we just stand someone near the smoke alarm to fan away the smoke and turn it off. We accept it as the price of a delicious turkey!
Hope your Thanksgiving was full of family, friends, and many blessings! Oh, I think I hear the smoke alarm - dinner's ready!
Haha that's just too funny. The same thing happens when I heat my oven to 500 to make pizza. Hope you had a great thanksgiving!
